Envision’s Art Program provides people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with classes that are intended to build on their natural creative skills to increase their social and emotional skills, improve dexterity, enhance ability to focus, and improve self esteem. The goal of the program is not to teach painting, drawing or sculpting in a traditional manner, but to provide the materials, support and encouragement to develop natural talents. If done with care and respect, the art produced is a unique window to the soul of the complex and diverse people supported by Envision.
Artists with IDD are often underestimated, historically devalued and would not otherwise be featured in a professional art studio or gallery. We are dedicated to showcasing our program’s art in the community throughout the year. The quality artwork inspires many and often changes the perceptions of individuals with IDD within the community. The program’s art and visibility raises awareness of this population in our community, and creates an opportunity for the public to engage with people with IDD.
